i had a great ride on saturday. two hours on our local trails, the ones that are not particularly singlespeed friendly. but yet, i managed to find a route that enabled me to maximize my climbing time on the bike and challenge me with technical bits. a good time.

but today is a different story. i’ve been dealing with some stomach upset issues. sort of nagging, underlying ’sour stomach.’ i’m not in pain, i just don’t feel well. and i haven’t been able to really pinpoint what’s going on. today it was really bad. i just felt bad in the belly and therefore bad all around. i ended up not going out for my planned long ride, just wasn’t feeling up to it today and i can make it up tomorrow after work.

thinking about what’s wrong with me, i’m wondering if it’s all the Clif Shot Bloks that i’ve been eating. literally they are my main training/trail food. easy to carry, easy to eat - i love them. however, i remember this ’sour stomach’ feeling from when i used mainly Clif gels and bloks during the last Jay x-country training. for some reason they don’t sit well for me. this is why i end up back on ‘real’ food.

so now i’m trying to figure out my new trail food source. i’m thinking fig bars right now, but should check the ingredients first to make sure they fit the mold. and i’m going to try going without bloks and seeing if that helps to right things in the stomach world.
