We were sitting around the Alchemist on Sunday afternoon, having some recovery drinks after a weekend of good outside rides. The boys were all trying to outdo each other with tales of how little time they spent on the trainer this winter. Um, not me. I spent a fair amount of time on the trainer and on the spin bike. Nothing heroic like a three hour session, just a series of afternoons and evenings spinning the wheel and going nowhere.
Obviously I can’t join the Cool Kid Club with that amount of indoor cycling under my belt. I’m resigned to it as a helpful part of living in Vermont, and am always ready to move along to outdoor pursuits as soon as the weather permits.
So I don’t know what came over me, but as I read through my blog feeds yesterday The 100 Miles of Nowhere totally caught my eye, and made me sign up for it. It’s Fat Cyclist’s charity ride. A virtual century performed on your trainer, rollers, or the most ridiculously short course you could imagine. I missed it last year, but now I’m in. Good thing too as it looks like it will sell out momentarily.
Not sure exactly how I will do this. Probably on the trainer as ‘around the block’ in these parts is an 8 mile loop with a ton of climbing. Depending on logistics it might have to be a stage race. That’s the good thing though – there’s flexibility in this event. I’ll get the best starting position, tissue, food and drink handups from my soigneuse, and no travel involved – and it all goes to fight against cancer, I’m happy to support that fight.

100 miles?? I would not make it. I can barely stand 90 minutes of extremely complicated intervals on the trainer.
Best of luck, and it’s for a great cause, but that is insaaaane.
Awesome! I really pondered it, but can’t afford it right now. There’s some seriously sweet stuff in the goodie bag! I’m jealous!
[...] about all the time I’ve ridden indoors this winter, I decided that I’ve completed my 100 Miles of Nowhere challenge. Finally. I signed up way back when, but when the appointed day came I was deep in an [...]
