Remember last summer, when it rained all day every day for a month? It seems we’re getting some sort of reward for suffering through all that wetness. It’s really dry out there.
Dry enough that the trails that dry out early are ready to ride. I felt a little funny as I got ready to head out onto Town Loops today. After all, snowbank remains are still lurking in the shadows and winter is a very clear memory. But once I got out there, no regrets. Those trails were bone dry.

It felt good to be on VT singletrack. Even this easy stuff makes GA and AZ singletrack seem like fire roads. Though i wasn’t feeling super sharp today, i was pleased to see me riding things that in the past i never rode and that in the more recent past i wasn’t able to climb on the singlespeed. Well, I can do it now. This training stuff seems to actually work. Shoulda used the inhaler though. I never know if the asthma is going to give me a hard time, and today i was definitely wheezing.

deadfall with punji sticks
There was a lot of deadfall out there. And if I had a derailleur on my bike, it would have probably been toast by the end. A bunch of logs will need some tending too, but for the most part it was smooth going.
