after a protracted and warm fall, the weather finally decided to turn toward winter and bless us with the first snow. We lucked out with folks in the mid-atlantic bearing the brunt of the storm. But we had a hearty inch or two this morning when we got up. Temps in the low 30′s.

img_0489After a disaster of a ride on Perry Hill yesterday, I really needed some redemption and some time on the bike. So I had my tea and tried to get fired up for a cold and snowy ride. I chose to take the Fisticuffs out today, SS cross bike and it was a fine choice. I’m deeply in love with this drivetrain, it’s so smooth and solid. Really smooth. This bike hasn’t been ridden as much as it should have been due to the alterna-bars. But as I ride them more and more they’re starting to grow on me.

img_0491It was cold out there, not horribly cold, but there was a stiff continuous headwind. After an hour or so my feet started to get frozen. I don’t have winter shoes yet, so I’ve been trying to get by with wool socks, plastic bags, my sidi’s, and shoe covers. This is no longer working for me. My toes get too cold. Not wanting to make the situation worse, I turned around a little early. 2.25 hours today, toes moderately frozen upon return.
