Well, it was no trip to beautiful Tahoe like last November, but somehow I survived. 7 long days and 7 long nights in a conference center in the Hill Country of Texas. Lots of work, but also lots of friends from over the years.
After getting home Friday evening, I spent the weekend decompressing, recharging, catching up on sleep and having a little bit of introvert time after a week of being uber-social. It seemed as if a bomb went off in my house while I was gone, mostly it strew mail, lego and dirty laundry everywhere, but it also took out a large number of light bulbs. There was much housework in with my recuperation.
Texas was not great for me physically. Not only did I not have time to workout, a week of standing around in heels made my stupid, ongoing groin bruise very unhappy. In fact, the whole business is more tired and sore than before I left. Ugh.
Got out Saturday for an hour easy spin. Felt sooooooo good to pedal after the time off. Chose the Fisti because the singlespeed would make me take it easy on the flat terrain of River Road. I left for my ride feeling tired and sick and sore in the groin, came back happy, sleepy and still sore.
On Sunday Keiran and I took our bikes out to the Stowe Rec Path. We cruised for about an hour, long enough for me to start feeling pretty crappy. So instead of handing K off so I could go for a real ride I decided to take it easy and just take him swimming. Now that he can swim I was able to find a lane and swim some laps for the first time in three years. Sorta forgot everything I had struggled to learn about swimming the ‘right’ way, but it started to come back. Maybe I’ll swim more laps this winter, or then again maybe not.
