I just returned after another week on the road for work. This was a good trip, getting to see some customers in new parts of the country, being wined and dined in the name of site inspections, and catching up with friends. My happy little bubble popped last night around 7pm when I realized that Delta was not going to be delivering me home in a timely manner. This was followed by a brief ray of hope and a 5k sprint through both the A and C terminals of the Detroit airport, only to have my hopes dashed with the cancellation of my flight and a restless night spent at a smokey Embassy Suites airport hotel.
So I’m home. I’m tired. I have a ton of work to catch up on. and I’ve got a 40 mile race on Sunday, the Darkhorse 40. After a week of getting soft on rich food and wine, 6 airline hops in three days, and exercise consisting only of an hour tooling around on this fine machine (yes, and the run through the airport in the wrong shoes):
I can tell you that I’m feeling about as prepared to race 40 miles as I am to sail around the world. Oh well.
And now some images from the past two weeks.
Riding all these different bikes made me realize that I’m quite content with my current bike and quite content without multiple gears or cushy rear suspension. None of those things made me any better as a bike rider, just seemed to make things heavier, more complicated and slower.
