k learning about berms
there’s been loads of riding lately. some not quite of the quality that i’d like, but others have been making me really happy in other ways as well. see above for a shot from our Friday night ice cream ride. We rode from the shop, along a dirt path next to the river where we connected to the sidewalk and headed down to the little dirt jump area by the Perry Hill trail entrance. K was having a blast riding along the little bumps and berms. There’s nothing big or scary there, with the exception of the roll-in mound. And he rode that too. Whooping and hollering. Afterwards we got ice cream and went back to the shop to work on bikes as a family.
Saturday I went out for a trail ride in the afternoon. I wasn’t riding that well, Perry Hill, singlespeeding and me just don’t quite get along yet. Not strong enough for that sustained steep climbing nonsense. Anyway, I slogged my arse to the top of the Hill - trying to be as fast as I could so we could get up and down the fun way and still get out of the woods for the one guys hard stop. At the top - thunder. Rolling in. You could tell it was still at a distance, but I am not a fan of mountain biking in thunderstorms. I skipped any additional extraneous parts of the ride and got my butt out of there in time for the big storm.
Sunday - mother’s day - is generally cause for an awesome ride. This year though it was nasty and raw outside. Windy and sorta rainy. The type of weather that is not conducive to pedaling unless you’re in the mood for it, which i wasn’t.
However, I made up for that ride today on my mother’s day present:

Vassago Fisticuff
Yup, it’s a singlespeed too. Mustache bars. Lots of shiny bits. I went out for about 1.5 on this tonight and it was quite pleasant, though it’s certainly not a long outing sort of bike. SS on the rode always feels odd to me too, lots of coasting around. I made the trip home part of my ride and continued to be shocked at how well i motored up the hill. Like there wasn’t even a hill. Last summer it would stop me in my tracks, 4 miles an hour. Now it’s like nothing and that makes me super happy.
